Product Description

The motorization kit includes everything you need to motorize your Country Living Mill: pre-drilled and threaded baseboard, gear-reduced motor with pulley, belt and belt guard, and all the necessary hardware. The motor kit grinds at a steady 65 rpm pace that keeps the flour cool to reduce the loss of nutritional enzymes.

  1. Easy, fast assembly, and it works. Save time and money, do it right the first time. 5 Star Review

Amazingly simple and straight forward. I had ours assembled inside 20 minutes with hand tools. We haven't had a chance to grind any grain yet, but I do remember hand cranking some grain and it took hours. I thought about engineering my own system into an old cabinet, but I decided to use the motorization kit because it is a proven design.

  2. Easy Set Up 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Mar 2017

This review is on the ease of settig it up and using it. I have had it three days. Set up was quick and simple. No need to measure or configure the pieces. Just install them according to the drawing. The board came with pre-drilled holes and hardware to accommodate.

When removing the motor board from the box, I suggest keeping the foam sheets in the box, and use them for padding under the board, because the bolts protrude at the bottom enough to scratch a surface.

I immediately used it to grind wheat for pancakes and crackers and then corn for cornbread. I ground the corn twice, maybe there's a way to do it once, but it came out noticeably finer than store bought cornmeal.

  3. Great Product 5 Star Review

We have had the grain mill for several years and didn't use it as much as we had intended because hand grinding was somewhat difficult for us as we are seniors. As soon as we got it set up, we ground some flour and I made bread. We really love having the motor kit for it. Now I can make bread every week. Thank you for a great product.

  4. Just as I hoped it would be 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th May 2016

The motorization kit came quickly, and was well packaged to prevent damage during shipping. Installation/assembly with the mill was simple and included all necessary hardware. Instructions were sufficient.

As with many of the other reviewers, I had the mill for a while thinking that I would do it by hand. But the motor is a must-have. I rarely used my mill because of the labor required for a loaf of bread. Now I mill every day.

Between the mill and the motor kit, the setup is quite pricey, but so far I am satisfied and I feel confident both will last many years.

When assembled, it's still possible to lift and carry the assembly to another room. It's heavy, but not too heavy to move. Some people like my wife might want a second person to help with moving it--then I just do it myself for her.

The motor runs surprisingly slow, which they say is a positive thing because the grain doesn't heat up--and it doesn't. Flour stays nice and cool. However, you will note that it takes 30 minutes to grind the brim-full standard hopper of hard white winter wheat without the hopper extension with the mill set to its finest setting. This is okay. I just set a timer for 25 minutes and go back to it before the mill is empty. (Don't run your mill empty!)

When milling, flour dust seems to land in a fine coat on the motor (and everywhere else within 2 or 3 feet). Will this eventually be a problem?

One complaint. During installation when adjusting the belt tension, the tension post started bending as I increased to the necessary tension. It could be sturdier. However, it's only under tension while adjusting the tension. Once you bolt the motor in place, you simply let the tension off the tension post. Even if there were no tension screw and post, you could still adjust the tension manually, so I consider this a VERY MINOR issue. It does not interfere with the mill's functionality after setup is complete.

  5. Major labor saver :) 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Mar 2016

We've had our Country Living grain mill for three years and at first I loved the manual labor side of it -- felt like I was really getting my upper body workout whenever I wanted to grind grain. Which was fun for a while, but honestly having this time-saving (and labor-saving!) motor in place has actually helped us use our mill much more regularly so that homemade bread is much more of a mainstay in our household now. :) Sometimes it's great to embrace modern technology :D

  6. Super easy 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Dec 2015

I bought my Country Living grain mill over 15 years ago, but haven't used it much as it is so much work to turn by hand even with the extension handle. I was very pleased to find the motorization kit. Only took about 20 minutes to get it setup and running. Very clear instructions. Works great. Happy to support such a quality, American made product.
I was impressed with the packaging. No damage despite lightweight, fragile parts were in the same box with heavy parts.
    Worth the money.

I have one suggestion: it would be nice to have a fitted hopper to receive the ground flour.

  7. Works like a charm. 5 Star Review

I enjoyed the assembly of the motorization kit. Everything fit well and was easy to do with the clear instructions. I look forward to grinding tons of grain with this addition.

  8. Motorization allows me to do other things while waiting... 4 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Sep 2014

Grinding wheat berries using the hand crank was fun - a novelty - but spending 20 minutes to grind a pound of flour was taking more time than I wanted, so I purchased the motorization kit.
Setup was relatively easy - a few bolts installed in high quality wood base, install and tension belt, then adjust tension.
Now I get to scale and measure other ingredients while the motor does its business. I am still milling about a pound every 20 minutes or so with the advantage of not having to spend the time milling.
I think moving forward I will have to try the nut butter attachment :)
    Thanks for this add-on!

  9. Worth the substantial cost 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Sep 2014

The motor drive unit arrived in fine condition. Installation is very straight forward. The most difficult parts are the screws to hold the belt and pulley shield in place. Awkward for large hands. I drilled pilot holes which helped a lot. I use the mill with the corn and bean auger at all times. Works great and is somewhat faster grinding wheat. The grind is very fine, if you wish, or course enough to just crack corn. It is much quieter than my K-TEC and produced a lot less dust. It is a keeper.

This kit is everything advertised! Easy to assemble and set up . Highly recommended, but a little pricey.
